Pregnancy
In Between
Waiting,
Already a mother
Yet an orb of new baby and new emotions.
Swollen,
Ready,
Yet not.
Wondering,
Will there be enough
Love
And
Energy?
Knowing
That love will be abundant.
One heartbeat in your old world,
One in a new world,
A world you can’t yet imagine.
The old you
The new you
The time of in between
The time of waiting
A time for reverence
A space of liminality
Between here and there.
The time of wonder
Where the opening begins.
As an alternative to a baby shower, how would it feel to you to be celebrated as a pregnant woman and for this sacred life transition to be honoured, witnessed and supported by your community?
Pregnancy is an important rite of passage globally across many cultures. Women, whether in their first pregnancy or their seventh, are supported, witnessed and gifted wisdom by their peers and older women in their communities as part of an honouring ceremony. Networks of support are strengthened, and the postpartum period is planned for. We all deserve to be witnessed and celebrated as we begin our journeys into any season of motherhood, and these ceremonies and strong sense of community can help to create stronger and healthier foundations for us as we move through life.
There is no one right way to hold a celebration in honour of your pregnancy and the beginning of your journey into a season of motherhood. Maybe you will want to honour the ending of another too. It can look however feels good and right to you. My role is to help you and whoever is supporting you to create the ceremony, to explore what your unique celebration might look and feel like and to support you to gather the resources you need. I can also facilitate the ceremony if you wish.
Are you curious about how this could feel?
